Why not take a trip out into the countryside surrounding Norwich. The Norwich Fringe Project has produced a series of cycle and walks leaflets, which will allow you to explore and discover the countryside on your doorstep in and around the Norwich Fringe.

Walks
A series of three leaflets taking you on walks around the Southern area of the Norwich Fringe Project.
Yare Valley, River and Ridge Walk - 7miles (11.2 km)
This is a great away to explore the eastern side of Norwich’s two rivers the River Wensum and River Yare. Starting at Trowse follow the River Yare through Whitlingham Country Park, across to Thorpe St Andrews and back to Trowse via, Thorpe Marshes, Pilling Park, Lion Wood, Rosary Cemetery returning by the Riverside walk and the River Wensum.

Norwich to Caistor Roman Town - 7miles (11.2 km)
A chance to discover & explore the history of Caistor Roman Town. Starting at the Cock Pub at Lakenham the walk will take you across fields and through woodlands around Bixley and Arminghall where you will arrive at Caistor Roman Town.
Look out for the old roman wall on the north side of the site. Return back to the Cock Pub via road and footpaths through fields.

Norwich to Trowse Bridges Walk - 4miles (6.5km)
Feel like leaving the car behind and walking from your house out into the countryside on the south of Norwich, well with this walk you can. Starting at the Queens Road Sainsburys the walk takes you along Lakenham Way (a former Victorian branch railway line) down to the River Yare via the Cock pub at Lakenham. The walk follows the River Yare to Trowse returning to Sainsburys via Brancondale and St Mark's Church. A great summer evening walk.

Marriotts Way & Northern Woodlands Cycle Routes - 20miles (32km)
Leave the car behind and dust the cob webs off your bike. Follow Marriotts Way (a former railway line) from the centre of Norwich out to Swannington. This is a great route for a Sunday afternoon family cycle ride. The route follows Marriotts way taking in the lanes and woodlands around Felthorpe and Horsford returning back to Marriots Way by Swannington.

River Tas & Yare Valley Trail - 15.5 miles (25km)
This route is suitable both for horse riders and cyclists. Starting in the centre of Norwich (for Cyclists) the route takes you down to Trowse and through Whitlingham Country Park out to Kriby Bedon. For horse riders the route heads off to Framingham Pigot and Framingham Earl where it links into Norfolk County Councils Poringland to Saxlingham circular bridle route, (Click here) For cyclists the route continues on from Kirby Bedon taking you through Rockland St Mary's, Bramerton, Poringland Caistor Roman Town and back to Norwich.

The Norwich Fringe Health Walks Initiative
Walking is increasingly recognised as one of the best ways to improve your physical health and mental well being. As well providing regular led health walks through out the Norwich area, for information on led health walks (Click here) we have also produced a booklet containing 15 self-guided walks around the Norwich Area. The booklet contains information and a detailed map about the walk and how to get there. Have a look through and print out the walk you wish to do today, why not take a friend or group of friends with you.

Or for something a little bit further a field and a bit more challenging how about walk 5 the Ringland Village Walk or Butterfly Walk as I like to call it.
