Description: A green oasis in the city!
Cary's Meadow is a special site, located on the edge of Norwich; it was once a traditional river meadow. However this changed during the 60's & 70's when the site was used as a tip for building rubbish (concrete, brick and rubble) This added an extra 10 - 20 feet to the meadow and changed its appearance. The site is low in nutrients, which wildflower thrives in.

Due to this Cary's Meadow has become and important grassland habitat containing a mix of Calcareous neutral and wet grass lands. Look out for Bee Orchard, Pyramid Orchard and Southern Marsh Orchard.

Over the past 20 years Cary's Meadow has been left to its own devices and scrub, (young trees) have started to colonise the site. Without any sensitive management the grassland habitats could be lost to scrub and eventually woodland. The site is currently grazed during the summer by stock.

Cary's Meadow provides an interesting and peaceful short circular walk. Paths are uneven and liable to flooding in prolong wet weather.
